Chapter 13 Summary

Lily has just been told that her mother did leave her and only came back for clothes.
During this chapter she moves through the emotional trauma necessary to be able to recover from the shock. She has a tantrum and throws jars of honey everywhere, expressing her anger, and then participates n the May Day ritual finishing, where they unchain Mary and cover her in honey, which is, incidentally, a strong preservative.
Participating in this made Lily feel more open and receptive, and August shows her her mothers few possessions, which open the floodgates to realization, understanding and forgiveness; to healing.
